TEHRAN (IQNA) – Ahmed Mohamed Amer was a prominent Egyptian qari who recited the Quran beautifully and with a strong voice even when he was 88 years old.

Ahmed was born in a family whose members were Quran memorizers and reciters. His father was a known Quran reciter and his grandfather was a memorizer of the Holy Book.

Born in Egypt in 1927, Ahmed started learning the Quran by heart at the age of 4 and became a memorizer at 11.

At the age of 13 he knew the rules of recitation and Tajweed and recited the Quran with ease. People in his village called him a master at 13 and continued to do so until his death.

He first followed the recitation style of Abdul Fattah Sha’shaei.

In 1956, he passed a test to enter Egypt’s radio but soon the radio was closed for some time due to war and he performed his first recitation at the radio in November 1963.

Ahmed’s first visit to a foreign country came in 1958 when he traveled to Sudan along with Khalil al-Husary and Abdul Hakam in 1958.

He later traveled to other countries like India, Yemen, Iran, Bahrain and Syria for Quran recitation.

Ahmed Mohamed Amer had one of the most powerful voices among Egyptian qaris. He would even recite the Quran with full strength at the age of 88.

As for style, though, he did not have an independent style and followed the recitation style of Abdul Fattah Sha’shaei and then Mustafa Ismail.

The following footage features his recitation of verses from Surah Al-Baqarah:
